Government of Tamil Nadu by an Act of State Legislature [Act No.43 of 1997] established the Tamil Nadu Dr.Ambedkar Education sensitizes human values, Legal education serves human lives

Greetings from the Fraternity of the Tamil Nadu Dr.Ambedkar Law University Chennai.

It gives me immense pleasure as the Vice-Chancellor of a State University in the field of Law, first of its kind in South Asia to bring to light the noble vision of the educational culture that is to be inculcated in this University and its significant role in this fourth phase of globalized and economically interdependent world.

In the contemporary era, compared to yesteryears, the role of law and justice has to be multivalent to address national and international concerns with a pluralistic approach. Accordingly, inquisitive diversity in law is necessary through a comparative outlook to address the multi-polar issues of law and justice with a socio-scientific temperament. India as the seventh largest polity, fastest developing economy, biggest consumer market, unified legal and judicial system and pluralistic multilingual country with diversified realistic legal traditions is an intellectual matrix in which, the legal educational institutions especially, the Tamil Nadu Dr.Ambedkar Law University has a definite role to play.

The Tamil tradition, culture and its contribution for the augmentation of Law and Justice is well known from the days of the revered great sage Thiruvalluvar. To nurture the modem youth with a blend of culturo-legalistic traditions of Tamil Scholars and as well that of the Social justice philosophy of Bharat Ratna Babasaheb Dr. B.R. Ambedkar's conceptual thought of "Social Justice", the Government of Tamil Nadu first state in the Country to enact a law to establish an Affiliating Law University in the year 1997.

Since its establishment, the University under the able leadership of the Hon’ble Governor-Chancellors, Hon’ble Ministers of Law and Justice and Pro-Chancellors, Vice Chancellors, learned Jurists, Scholars, Judges, Practicing Lawyers through various bodies contributed richly to train the young talented youth of the state with a plenty of skills of legalistic traditions to lead the nation from the front through various avocations.

In the last two decades, the University made a mark of itself through its academic units, viz., School of Excellence in Law (SOEL), and working hard to further strengthen its academic and research activities untiringly with the support of its faculty, staff, students and research scholars with a global outlook to establish as a leading player in legal education

In the last two decades, the University made a mark of itself through its academic units, viz., School of Excellence in Law (SOEL), and working hard to further strengthen its academic and research activities untiringly with the support of its faculty, staff, students and research scholars with a global outlook to establish as a leading player in legal education

Accordingly, the curricula of ours is tailor made to train the young intellectuals with a stimulating lawyering skills, judicial instincts and to give expertise in special laws and research values with leadership qualities to equip the future students to contribute their might to share and enrich the traditions of the Bar and the Bench. The Library of ours with all modem facilities remains to be the best in the country. In this regard, as per the policy of the Bar Council of India to impart clinical legal education, an AIR Research Café is established as approved by all the respective Bodies of the University to enhance the professional skills of the students at an affordable cost.

The University is striving hard to enrich its academic and research activities through national and international institutional collaborative facilities to uplift the legal education of Tamil Nadu, which has its own hallmark in the legal arena in the country.
